(October 5, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is applying surface treatment along a section of MD 173 (Fort Smallwood Road) from MD 607 (Hog Neck Road) to the entrance at Fort Smallwood Park in Anne Arundel County. Work will begin this week and is scheduled for completion by the end of the month, weather permitting.
Contractor Slurry Pavers of Richmond, Va. will guide drivers using a daytime flagging operation, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Microsurfacing is a pavement treatment used to preserve existing asphalt surfaces and extend its service life. Portable variable message signs will advise drivers of the upcoming work.
The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits.
